The University YMCA's Immersion/EBP program is hiring two student program coordinators and trip leaders for the next academic year (2008-2009). You have been invited to this group because someone out there thinks you have the leadership ability and skills to make this Y program a success!
For those of you who do not know what the program is about, our mission is to send students on trips both domestically and internationally to volunteer and learn about social justice and environmental issues. The knowledge gained from these trips is then brought back to the Twin Cities community. A few examples of trips that went out this year:
-Costa Rica (Winter break) - Volunteered at an animal rescue center building cages and fixing trails. Learned about renewable energy in Costa Rica and the rainforest.
-San Diego/Tijuana - Went to the border to study immigration issues.
-South Dakota/Sioux YMCA (This summer) - Will be heading to the reservation to volunteer and learn about the reserve. There will be a lot of work involving youth and we still need more participants for this trip!
Program coordinators are paid a $600 stipend per semester and the duties are as follows:
-Recruit trip leaders and participants.
-Marketing efforts for recruitment (in-class presentations, flyers, facebook groups/events, open houses at the YMCA).
-Run leadership seminars for all trip leaders, which meet once per week for an hour.
-Arrange post-trip potlucks to celebrate the trips.
-Organize post-trip projects to bring knowledge back into the Twin Cities community.
-Manage budgets with YMCA staff and trip leaders.
-Attend YMCA program coordinator events.
Trip Leaders receive a discount on the trip they lead and the duties are as follows:
-Recruit trip participants.
-Marketing efforts for recruitment (in-class presentations, flyers, facebook groups/events, open houses at the YMCA).
-Attend leadership seminars for all trip leaders, which meet once per week for an hour.
-Attend post-trip potlucks to celebrate the trips.
-Organize post-trip projects to bring knowledge back into the Twin Cities community.
-Create trip itineraries and budgets.
